Do you wish to explore the world and broaden your horizons with an Erasmus experience, but cannot decide which city suits you best? We picked out the best Erasmus destinations for you to choose from!

Four months ago, I started longing for international student experience. I was eager to explore different cultures through Erasmus, but I did not know where to start. Therefore, I decided to do some research among my friends and I came up with the following list of cities that offer the best Erasmus experience.

1. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona owes its appealing uniqueness to Gaudi, who decorated it with his eccentric but mesmerizing architecture that leads you through the city. The long evenings, gleaming from the sunset are perfect for a walk along the beach, which can, when the sun drops, transform into a romantic sangria night with a view of the sea, to spice up your Erasmus experience.

2. Berlin, Germany

Berlin is the go-to place for lovers of culture, hipsters and artistic souls. Berlin offers a high quality of life, a vibrant multicultural atmosphere and young vibes. If you choose it as your Erasmus destination, you will be able to indulge in different nightlife activities, visit museums, browse through vintage stores … You can never get bored in Berlin!

3. Lisbon, Portugal

It is one of the most inexpensive Erasmus destinations and also one of the most popular ones. Who wouldn't want to spend a semester living practically on the beach and studying by the sound of the ocean? Lisbon is always sunny, the people are smiling all the time, the nightlife is bursting with excitement and you can dance through the night at one of the many street festivals! But there is more to Lisbon than just sun tanning and clubbing – you can also enjoy a quiet stroll along its colourful streets, admire the gothic architecture and treat yourself with a fresh catch at one of the many seaside restaurants.

4. Madrid, Spain

Shadowed by its seaside sister, Barcelona, Madrid is often unfairly overlooked, even though it is one of the best Erasmus destinations. It breathes the cosmopolitan vibe of a big city, mixed with the hot and leisurely Spanish temperament. You can indulge in late night rooftop dinners and refined artistic scenery with its many museum and fine restaurants. The Spanish capital will seduce you with its beauty and hospitality and you will never want to leave.

5. London, UK

London is the paradise of amazing ivy league colleges. It will charm you with its perfect combination of history and modern vibrations. While cruising through the crowd of young fashionistas one is always expecting to run into a true English gentleman in Downton Abbey style. The nightlife is like nowhere else, but unfortunately, the same goes for the ridiculously high prices, so for Erasmus students, Manchester or Liverpool might be more suitable.

6. Paris, France

The city of romance and effortless elegance is also a great place for intellectual education, with its many museums, art galleries, chick little cafes and avant-garde night clubs. This is also the ultimate Erasmus destination to relish in classic French fashion while sipping champagne and enjoying macarons. If you are a lover of culture – or just a lover – this is the place to go!

7. Amsterdam, Netherlands

The Venice of the North should be called Venice of the young since Amsterdam is less romantic as it is vibrant. It is also the home of one of the best Universities in the world. Therefore, it provides a perfect Erasmus student experience. Furthermore, Amsterdam has inspired many artists throughout history, and it continues to be the inception of creativity, allowing you to find your own individual expression.
