Changing the weight or address on prepaid shipping is possible, and in fact, very easy to do. There are some cases that you can edit the shipping label, and in other, you need to void it first.

Void a shipping label with courier companies

You have just finished packing your goods, and the weight of the parcel is more than expected. Or, you noticed a mistake in the shipping address or decided for another delivery address. Regardless of what the case may be, for any changes in order, there is one thing you will have to do. Void the shipping label.

What will happen if I void the shipping label?

Once you void a shipping label, you will no longer be able to use it and will be eligible for a refund. Nonetheless, bear in mind, that to do so, you should not have used the label. Thus, if you have shipped the package with that label, and later want to void it, you will not get the refund as the system recognises it as a parcel which was already shipped to the destination. As such, if you wish to cancel the shipping label, do it prior to collection.

Can I simply edit the shipping label instead of voiding it?

The courier driver may not have yet collected the parcel, however, if you have already received the shipping label you cannot edit on the same one. What you can do in such a case, is to contact the logistics provider, ask to make the changes and wait for a new one.

Notify the courier company of all the changes you wish to make to the shipping label. Once you do, and it is confirmed, you will have to throw away your old shipping label and replace it with the new one.

Many online sellers decide to handwrite a shipping label. Most courier companies do allow it; however, it is not very practical. There are a couple of reasons why should one decide on printing a label instead of writing it. For instance, if the handwriting is not well readable, or the ink gets in touch with water, the label will be damaged. If the label is damaged, the courier will not be able to scan the parcel; thus, the package may get lost. On the other hand, if you are dealing with a lot of shipments daily, this will be very time consuming and tiring. Many would agree that postage rates may vary depending on this, too, and as such, opt for the cheaper and more practical option, the printed label.

Can I void the shipping label as an online seller on eBay or Amazon?

Many times, the buyer decides to change something with the order he/she placed. As such, if the seller has already printed the new label, they need to cancel the current shipping label and request another one.

Thus, the answer is yes, as a seller on eBay, Amazon or other marketplaces, you can void the shipping label. In fact, this is necessary to get the money back. If you do not do that, after some time (the time depends on the courier company performing the delivery), the label will expire, and you will no longer be able to use it, nor to ask for a refund.

You can modify the address until the previous day of collection, preferably early in the morning. Please note that for some specific changes that may require a different route or different carrier, you may have to pay the difference in the amounts.
