Can I ship a cannabis grow tent? Or cannabis grow lights? Or growing soil for cannabis?

There are no clear rules on the legality of shipping products like a cannabis grow kit, a cannabis grow tent, cannabis grow lights or growing soil for cannabis. Even on the sale of these items, there is little to no information to be found. Please note that this does not conclude that it is 100% legal. The responsibility of buying and/or shipping a cannabis grow kit or growing soil for cannabis lies solely with the customer.

We do find in a publication by the European Union that the cultivation and possession of (female) marijuana plants for personal use is defined by each country. In Belgium you are allowed to have one plant, in the Netherlands you can have up to 5 plants and in the UK, you are allowed to own 8 plants. While in countries such as Portugal, Croatia, and Spain the possession of even one plant is regarded as a criminal offense.

  3. Place the packages in a box and fill it with cushioning materials like paper snippers and packing peanuts.
  4. Seal the box with sufficient tape also for the corners and edges. Add the shipping label if necessary.

For shipping growing soil for cannabis:

  1. Place the bag or box with soil in a plastic bin bag to prevent a spill. And secure the bag with tape.

For shipping a cannabis grow light:

  1. Disassemble the light and wrap each part separately in bubble wrap or plastic bags. Wrap also the electric cord. Secure the wrapping materials with tape.
  2. Put the items in the box. First, fill the box with some cushioning materials. Place the wrapped items in the box and fill the empty space with more cushioning materials. You can use packing peanuts or crumpled paper. Make sure that the items do not move.
  3. Close the boxes and seal them. Use adhesive tape to close the box.
  4. If you want you can use the double box technique for extra safety. Use polystyrene sheets and cut them to fit all sides of the boxes with your items. Secure them with tape. Take an empty box which is slightly bigger than your first box and place the smaller box into a larger one.
  5. Close the boxes and label them (if needed). Use adhesive tape to secure the boxes and add a shipping label if needed. You can also add warnings such as “Fragile” or “Handle with care”, but this should never replace the proper packaging. The courier provider is not obliged to take such labeling into consideration.
