How to pack a printer for moving?
Printers, like other electronic devices, are fragile, so it is important to prepare them carefully for moving or transport. To protect your printer before moving, follow these steps to minimise the risk of damage and ensure it arrives at its new destination in the best condition:
- Prepare the moving box. The best way to move a printer safely to its new location is by placing it in its original box. If you don’t have the original box at hand anymore, the next best thing is to use a sturdy cardboard box.
- Remove the printer’s ink cartridges. Never move a printer to a new location before removing ink or toner cartridges from the device. Individually pack the ink or toner cartridges in resealable plastic bags to prevent leaks.
- Unplug and secure the cables. Make sure the power cord and USB cable are not plugged in to any other device or electric socket, then secure the power cord and USB cable to the back of the printer with masking tape to prevent tangling. Carefully remove any other detachable parts from the printer before moving, wrap each piece individually in bubble wrap.
- Remove paper from printer. After that, close all non-removable trays, panels, or doors of the printer and secure them with masking tape.
- Clean the printer. Cleaning the printer before moving will ensure any dust or debris that could damage the internal components during the move will be removed.
- Wrap the printer in bubble wrap. Position the printer in the middle of a large piece of bubble wrap and wrap it completely with two layers, ensuring that all edges and corners are covered.
- Place the printer in the box.. Before placing the printer in the box, you can add an additional layer of bubble wrap on the base and sides of the box. Empty spaces in the box can be filled with bubble wrap, packing peanuts or crumpled paper to prevent the printer from moving too much during transport.
- Close and seal the box. To minimise the risk of damage while moving a printer, label the box by adding “Fragile”, “Handle with care” or “This side up”.

How to select a right box for moving a printer?
The safest way to move a printer is by placing it in its original box or packaging. Original boxes are specifically designed to protect printers when moving. If you don’t have the printer’s original box at hand anymore, the next best thing is to use a sturdy cardboard box, which should be a few inches or centimeters bigger than the printer on all four sides – as you will need some extra space so that you can fit the printer inside the box once it has been wrapped in bubble wrap or padded well.
Larger printers or printing machines that do not come in a box will need to be wrapped in bubble wrap before moving.
Can I move or transport a printer with ink inside?
Moving a printer with ink inside is not advised due to the risk of cartridges spilling during transport. How to remove ink cartridges depends on the type of printer you have.
To remove ink cartridges from an injekt printer before moving, the printer should be turned on, then open the cartridge door, wait for the print head to move to the center, gently press down on the cartridge to release it, and lift the cartridge out of the printer.
When it comes to removing toner cartridges from a laser printer before moving turn on the printer, open the front cover, wait for the toner cartridge to move to the center, pull the release lever to release the toner cartridge, and lift the toner cartridge out of the printer.

How should I place the printer inside the van?
Prepare the printer, secure the print head and remove ink cartridges, wrap in bubble wrap, and pack in a sturdy cardboard box with packing peanuts or bubble wrap.
In case you are moving a large printer, load the printer carefully it into the van using a ramp or dolly, and avoid bumping or jarring the printer.
Secure the printer to the walls or floor of the van with straps or bungee cords, making sure it’s upright and cannot move around.
