What does deconsolidation mean in shipping?

Often, smaller cargo is merged and shipped as one single shipment. Such cases are usually less than container load shipments (LCL), where the cargo is consolidated into one single shipment for further delivery. The process of deconsolidation happens when the cargo is divided for final delivery into several smaller shipments.
